The Leonard Bridge was a two-lane, single-span (six-metre), timber bridge on timber crib abutments. The Province of Nova Scotia engaged Allnorth Consultants Limited to provide a preliminary and detailed design for a replacement bridge.
As a subconsultant to Allnorth, SHM Canada carried out the design of the replacement Leonard Bridge. In collaboration with NSTIR engineers and geotechnical subconsultants, our team successfully addressed challenges associated with the unusual geotechnical conditions and uneven pile foundations at the site.
The new Leonard Bridge features an integral abutment design, socketed steel H-pile foundation, and reinforced concrete approach slabs. The bridge’s superstructure comprises a reinforced concrete slab on four pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete girders.
