The fishing industry is an economic and cultural cornerstone of the District of Guysborough, and the Small Craft Harbour (SCH) facility in Little Dover, NS is crucial to this industry. In 2015, in response to increased industry demand and concerns about structural deterioration, plans for an upgrade of the Little Dover facility were announced by the federal government.
SHM Canada was contracted by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) to prepare design and tender documents for a new pier wharf structure. Based on a geotechnical investigation and a conceptual design prepared by PSPC, SHM Canada designed an ell-shaped wharf, floating docks, service area, and fuel station. Our team also assisted with plans for the partial removal of the existing wharf and associated dredging, and provided resident construction services.
