Structural inspection and physical condition report for an active fishing harbour on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore

The Sambro Harbour SCH facility, located in Sambro, NS, was originally constructed in the 1960s and expanded in 1971. SHM Canada was engaged by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) to carry out structural inspection of the facility's two main wharves, a timber pile wharf stem and a crib structure tee. The Scope of Work comprised assessment of the physical condition of the wharf structures and all components; extraction and inspection of timber cores; and evaluation of safe loading capacity.

The SHM Canada team conducted and documented a detailed, component-by-component visual inspection of the wharves in accordance with the Ontario Structures Inspection Manual (OSIM). Drone photography was used to enhance record-keeping and to allow access to hard-to-reach portions of the structure, and a diving inspection allowed our team to assess the condition of submerged portions of the wharf.

Our team prepared a comprehensive report that documented the inspection findings, presented recommendations for repair/rehabilitation or replacement of wharf structures, and provided associated Class 'C' cost estimates.
