Design, installation, and operation of a customized Structural Health Monitoring System.

In May 2018, SHM Canada was commissioned by Atlantic Industries Limited (AIL) to install a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system on one ring of the corrugated steel arch culvert at the Linwood Road Overpass. The installation was carried out prior to the commencement of backfilling over the corrugated steel arch. Data was gathered until the fill over the arch was completed and static load testing carried out on May 31, 2018.

By gathering real-time data to assess live-load performance and confirm design assumptions for newly developed material, our team of engineers supported Atlantic Canadian innovation.

The primary objective of the test was to demonstrate the performance of the corrugated steel arch culvert under live load. The data collected during the tests is intended to help determine the actual magnitude of the live load stress induced in the instrumented ring and to compare it with theoretical values determined through analytical work.
